A new scientific review has identified 25 of the top foods and herbs which kill cancer stem cells at the root cause of cancer malignancy.
There are thousands of natural compounds that have been studied with demonstrable anti-cancer activity (check out over 600 on GreenMedInfo’s cancer research database), but only a small subset of these have been proven to target and kill the cancer stem cells which lie at the root of cancer malignancy. Turmeric, for instance, we have featured a number of times for its “smart kill” property of targeting just the heart of cancerous tumors. More recently, ginger has been found in pre-clinical research to contain a compound up to 10,000 times more effective than the chemotherapy drug Taxol at killing breast cancer stem cells. Even common foods like blueberry have special cancer killing properties, as discussed in a previous article for GreenMedInfo: Research: Radiotherapy Causes Cancer, Blueberry Kills It.
A new study published in the journal Anticancer Research, titled “Natural Products That Target Cancer Stem Cells“, has made our job much easier of identifying this special category of cancer killers by reviewing the extant literature on the topic and listing the top 25 substances in this category. They are listed here below, along with some of their commonly recognizable dietary sources.

Why are these substances so important?
The primary reason why conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy have failed to produce any significant improvements in cancer survival rates is because cancer stem cells are resistant to these interventions. In fact, chemotherapy and especially radiation are both capable of increasing the number and virulence of these cells in a tumor, while at the same time having the well known side effect of further damaging the patient’s immune system.
While the cancer industry is still very much resistant to incorporating the implications of these findings into their standard of care (which is highly unethical), there are an increasing number of health practitioners that will not turn their back on the truth and are very much interested in alternative ways to prevent and treat cancer using food and/or plant-based approaches.
The new study addresses the relevance of cancer stem cells as follows:
The cancer stem cell model suggests that tumor initiation is governed by a small subset of distinct cells with stem-like character termed cancer stem cells (CSCs). CSCs possess properties of self-renewal and intrinsic survival mechanisms that contribute to resistance of tumors to most chemotherapeutic drugs. The failure to eradicate CSCs during the course of therapy is postulated to be the driving force for tumor recurrence and metastasis. Recent studies have focused on understanding the unique phenotypic properties of CSCs from various tumor types, as well as the signaling pathways that underlie self-renewal and drug resistance.”
At present, the cancer industry has failed to produce a single drug that targets the cancer stem cell population of cells within a tumor, as confirmed by the study:
If indeed the CSC response is a vital criterion for cancer treatment evaluation, there are still no drugs in clinical use that specifically target CSCs.
The ability to selectively target cancer cells, and cancer stem cells in particular, while leaving intact the non-tumor cells in tissue is extremely important. We are also building a section that collates research cancer stem cells, a topic will no doubt become a central part of the future of cancer treatment, assuming the priority is to actually alleviate suffering and not just make money off of patients.

GINGER IS PACKED WITH ANTICANCER COMPOUNDS
Ginger has several active compounds including paradols, shagaols and gignerols. It was confirmed that these compounds provide powerful anticancer effects. This is the final conclusion in a scientific study revealed in the popular Food and Chemical Technology Journal.
Several other studies have shown that the results from this particular research are valid and they have used this initial research to highlight the effects of ginger in elimination of cancer cells in cases of prostate, ovarian and colorectal cancer. In addition, there are many experts who claim that ginger can provide much better results than chemotherapy.
1. GINGER ELIMINATES PROSTATE CANCER CELLS
A scientific study performed in the United States and revealed in the Journal of Nutrition (UK edition) has shown that extract from ginger can block the progress of prostate cancer cells in men and women, but only if they take about 100 mg of it per kilogram of body weight each day. Scientists have pointed out that this extract has the ability to lower the growth of prostate cancer in more than half of the patients.
So, taking 100 grams of fresh ginger a day will provide more or less equal results in men and women that weight around 70 kg. in addition, the study has confirmed that ginger didn’t provide any effects on healthy cells.
The scientists have summarized that this scientific study is unique because it shows data related to in vivo and in vitro anticancer effects of ginger extract in cases of prostate cancer. Overall, ginger may be more effective compared to standard chemotherapy because chemotherapy has negative effect on healthy cells too.
2. GINGER ELIMINATES OVARIAN CANCER CELLS
With the help of angiogenesis people can get more information about the beginning of cancer. In case this process is blocked at a very early stage, there is a great chance to prevent cancer.
A scientific study revealed in the Complementary and Alternative Medicine magazine has confirmed that the growth of cancer cells can be inhibited thanks to the active compounds found in ginger root. All these compounds provide powerful anti-angiogenic effects. As a matter of fact, this study has discovered that ginger is excellent when it comes to treatment and prevention of the vicious ovarian cancer.
Experts from the University of Michigan have highlighted clinical trials to the ACA (American Cancer Association) which suggested that this special herb is extremely useful because it eliminated cancer cells. In addition, ovarian cancer cells don’t have the opportunity to develop efficient resistance to the activity of these compounds and this is something that happens very often when chemotherapy begins.
So, ginger may have better potential against ovarian cancer compared to conventional chemo because it has no side effects, it is not toxic and can’t trigger drug resistance.
3. COLORECTAL CANCER AND GINGER
A conference dedicated to Cancer prevention Research held 12 years ago was the place where the potential of ginger in treating and preventing colorectal cancer was mentioned for the first time. Several scientists have suggested that there is sufficient evidence that ginger has the ability to protect people from colorectal cancer. More than a dozen of scientific studies were conducted since then and they also have proof that shows the anticancer effects of this herb.
For instance, the famous Journal of Nutrition has revealed such study last year. Thanks to this study people have found out that ginger is not good only for the prevention of this specific type of cancer, but it also has ability to eliminate newly formed colorectal cancer cells. In other words, people dealing with colorectal cancer can rely on ginger in order to boost their treatment.
WHY USING GINGER IS BETTER THAN CHEMO?
In the recent period there is a growing number of evidence that shows that this herb is extremely beneficial for protection against many different types of cancer like colorectal, prostate and ovarian cancer. The best part of this claim is that ginger is all-natural and mildly invasive treatment option especially when we compare it to the conventional chemotherapy. This means that ginger eliminates just cancer cells and doesn’t affect healthy cells in any way.
In addition, ginger is toxin-free herb. The only downside of using ginger extract when we use it as a cancer treatment is the fact that it is not officially accepted as a remedy against cancer because authorities need more evidence. Most of the studies we have mentioned were conducted on mice or in vitro.

So, all we need to do in order to enjoy the benefits that this herb brings is to include it in our daily diet which by the way must be natural and balanced. Four grams of ginger per day is the optimal dose for average adults. But, pregnant women should limit the intake to not more than one gram per day. Ingredients
1 apple
1 tsp honey (for sweetness)
1 tbsp chia seeds

Method

We all have our insecurities and for some women, the shape of our breasts is one of them. While appearance is a large part of that desire for ‘perfect’ breasts, in reality your concern should be for something much more important – your health. Sag can occur for natural reasons or lifestyle choices but there are things you can do to combat the sag and promote breast health regardless of the cause.
Why do breasts sag?
Our breasts are not muscle. They are made up of fatty tissues and glands that produce milk. All of this is covered with skin that is naturally elastic due to the presence of the protein elastin.
Things like smoking and dramatic weight gain or loss (such as during pregnancy) are what experts cite as the reason for breast sag.
Smoking destroys the elastin protein and causes skin to lose its elasticity. This causes the skin around and on the breasts to become loose and sag instead of clutching the tissue.
When it comes to weight loss, 50 pounds gained or lost will have an effect on your breasts and can cause them to sag.
So what can you do to keep your breasts firm?
For one, you can aim to maintain your weight. As mentioned earlier, if you keep your weight at a healthy, consistent level your breasts will stay stronger and more firm. Drastic weight gain and weight loss will cause the breasts to sag.
You can also keep your breasts firm by drinking water. You hear over and over again that water is good for your internals. It’s also great for your skin. According to the University of Wisconsin, if you do not drink enough water, your skin will age quicker. This will cause your breasts to sag. Always drink a liter of pure water upon getting up in the morning. Add a pinch of sea salt and lemon for further benefits.
Another way to maintain breast health and prevent sag is to get proper nutrition. According to iDIVA, foods rich in sulfur-bearing protein, hemp seeds, eggs and vitamin C are just a few things you can eat to promote breast health.
Exercise will also keep your breasts firm. If you need to lose some weight, be sure to keep your diet nutritious for not only breast health, but full body health. Avoid fried foods that can age connective tissue, just like you would avoid smoking.
Did you know there are also breast-specific exercises you can do? The routine below is a good one.
Aloe vera is another good way to keep your breasts firm. According to In Life Healthcare, all you have to do is massage your breasts with aloe vera gel, leave it on for ten minutes, and then wash. Do this 4 to 5 times a week and the aloe will naturally strengthen your skin. You can also massage your breasts with coconut oil or cacao butter 2 to 3 times a week.
You can also use a breast mask. PositiveMed has an incredible list of breast masks that you can apply to firm up your breasts. Here is one we adapted.
What you Need:
One tablespoon plain organic yogurt (vegans can use a tablespoon of coconut kefir)
One organic egg (vegans use one teaspoon of spirulina and coconut oil)
One tablespoon vitamin E oil (organic olive oil is also good)
Blend everything together and massage evenly onto your breasts. Cover with an old shirt and leave on for 20 to 25 minutes. Then rinse off.
